"First Aid at Hand": First Aid Training Guards Lives
Recently, to enhance employees' awareness and skills of first aid, our company's Human Resources Department specially invited Teacher Zhang Xia, a registered first aid trainer from the Red Cross Society of Jiangning District, to conduct a professional and practical first aid training activity. The training focused on three first aid techniques: cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and foreign body airway obstruction.
At the training site, the trainer first emphasized the importance of mastering first aid knowledge and skills in daily life. Every correct first aid action could be the key to saving a life.
During the cardiopulmonary resuscitation training session, the trainer explained in detail the common causes of cardiac arrest, the judgment methods, as well as the operation process and key points of CPR. "When finding someone lying on the ground, first ensure the safety of the scene. Then pat the patient's shoulders and call out to check if the patient is conscious. At the same time, observe whether the patient's chest is rising and falling to judge the breathing condition." While explaining, the trainer demonstrated with a simulation manikin, meticulously demonstrating the position, depth, and frequency of chest compressions and the operation method of artificial respiration. Special emphasis was placed on the "golden four minutes" for saving the lives of cardiac arrest patients.
Regarding the use of the automated external defibrillator, the trainer introduced the working principle and operation steps of the AED. "The AED is a first aid device that can automatically identify shockable rhythms and guide users in operation. Even non-professionals can quickly learn to use it." The trainer demonstrated on site how to quickly turn on the AED, correctly attach the electrode pads, and operate according to the voice prompts, allowing the trainees to understand the crucial role of the AED in cardiac arrest first aid and that it can greatly improve the patient's survival rate.
For the common emergency situation of foreign body airway obstruction, the trainer explained the Heimlich maneuver. For different age groups such as adults, children, and infants, the corresponding first aid techniques and precautions were introduced respectively. "For adults and children over 1 year old, the rescuer stands behind the patient, makes a fist with one hand, places the thumb two finger widths above the patient's navel, and wraps the other hand around the fist. Then quickly thrust inward and upward on the patient's abdomen until the foreign body is expelled." The trainer also used simulated scenarios to enable the trainees to more intuitively understand how to accurately and effectively carry out the rescue in actual operation.
After the theoretical explanation, the practical operation session began. The trainees were highly enthusiastic and actively stepped forward to practice. The trainer and assistants patiently guided beside them, promptly correcting the trainees' incorrect postures and techniques to ensure that each trainee could proficiently master the operation essentials of these three first aid techniques.
This first aid training activity not only enabled our company's employees to learn practical first aid knowledge and skills but, more importantly, enhanced everyone's life safety awareness. The concept of "everyone learns first aid, and first aid is for everyone" has been deeply rooted in people's hearts.
